Elections for President and Treasurer

It is time to elect a president and treasurer for the 2012-2014 term.  Our nomination process is self-nominating.  We must have all nominations returned NLT August 30.  Please return your completed nomination form to Willi Frank.  You do not have to be a resident of the Clarksville area to run.  We currently conduct a lot of our business via email and conference calls.  Please consider taking a more active role in our organization, FFNS cannot succeed on the backs of a few members.

2011 FFNS REUNION – Another Success

The 2011 Families of Fallen Night Stalkers Reunion was held in Clarksville, TN, at the Hilton Garden Inn Hotel, October 20-23. Eleven families were represented at the conference. We consider it a very successful conference as our objectives of sharing information and training were all met. Those who could not attend missed a great opportunity to learn about some of our benefits and to share in some wonderful conversations and experiences.

On Thursday, October 20th, prior to the beginning of our conference, several of our attendees participated in ceremonies at Fort Campbell for Gold Star Families. That evening we held a small social for our attendees, our guest speakers, guest associate members, and members of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment command group. Chris Medley, a local musician, provided entertainment throughout the evening.

Activities for Friday, October 21st, started with breakfast, opening remarks, and invocation by Chaplain Joey Odell, 1st Battalion, 160th SOAR. Following discussion of the conference schedule, old business, and reading and acceptance of minutes from our May meeting, new officers for the 2012-2014 term were acknowledged. As there was only one applicant for the position of treasurer, that application was read and voted on by the attending members. The new treasurer for the next term is Robin Weeks. She will begin transition with Kelly Gibbons, our outgoing treasurer, on November 1st. As our current president, Janet Egnor, decided not to run for reelection as she has been in the position for four years, and there being no other applicants, the position was offered to the current vice president, Willi Frank. She accepted the position and will also begin her transition period on November 1st. It was determined that the vice president position will remain vacant until the May meeting as that position, and the secretary position, will be up for election next year.

The TRICARE representative, Mr. Damien Lyle, was the first speaker of the day. He gave a great overview of TRICARE as it relates to surviving families, discussed the recent changes affecting dental care, and gave advise on how to make the system work better for us. Due to the small number of attendees we were able to address several individual questions. Following lunch, Mr. Jose Marrero of the Veterans Affairs office opened the afternoon discussions. As Mr. Marrero specializes in casualty assistance he was able to address the aspects of veteran affairs that most relate to our needs. He also was able to address many individual questions. Following Mr. Marrero’s presentation, we were joined by CPT Chris Curran, Deputy Regimental Judge Advocate, who discussed the various aspects of estate planning as it pertains to wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and other documents and their viability if we should need them. This session was very helpful to those of us with elderly parents and those with children. Jacqueline Pulliam of the Survivors Outreach Services closed out the speakers for the day with information and brochures on numerous organizations that support surviving families. It turned out to be a learning session for all in attendance. Following Jacqueline’s presentation we took a short break and reassembled in the dining room of the hotel for a wonderful dinner. The new officers were sworn in during dinner. It was a very enjoyable evening for all attendees.

Saturday morning, October 22, also began with breakfast furnished by FFNS. We were joined by Chaplain Dan Urquhart, 2nd Battalion, 160th SOAR, and Dr. Kent Hughes, a civilian counselor with the 160th SOAR, who co-conducted our grief management session. As with most of the conference, our speakers sat among the attendees making for a very comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. It was an opportunity for everyone to share experiences and the accompanying emotions and thoughts. Following the grief management session we broke for free time, including time to go to the Night Stalker Store, until we met up for an off-site tour and dinner at the Fontanel Mansion, the former home of singer Barbara Mandrell. It was a fun afternoon with an extended tour and a great evening with good food and friends.

Everyone met at the hotel on Sunday morning for a farewell breakfast prior to hitting the road on the way home. Many of our attendees were tired but so glad they had made the effort to attend. We hope more of you will join us next year…we are a pretty good group with wonderful support from the community, the Night Stalker Association, and the 160th SOAR. Thank you all for your continued support.
